Improvement in Listener Comfort Through Noise Shaping Using a Modified Wiener Filter Approach
نویسندگان
چکیده
The Wiener filter approach to noise suppression is well known both theoretically and practically. This paper explains the idea of extending this filtering approach to shape the residual noise of the output signal. Motivated by different kinds of stationary and instationary noise sources that appear in an automobile, along with the necessity to address the problem of increasing the listener comfort, an algorithm to achieve a time-frequency varying attenuation in the lower frequencies has been developed. The basic theory and the conditions to achieve this are presented. Details of the developed compressor algorithm as well as the modifications necessary to apply it to the classical Wiener filter are shown. The improvement that the modified filter brings to the noise input signal are significant and analyses of the results clearly show a reduction of the “ruggedness” of the input signal.

Speech Enhancement Based on Perceptually Comfortable Residual Noise
In this letter, we propose a novel approach to speech enhancement, which incorporates a new criterion based on residual noise shaping. In the proposed approach, our goal is to make the residual noise perceptually comfortable instead of making it less audible. A predetermined ‘comfort noise’ is provided as a target for the spectral shaping. Based on some assumptions, the resulting spectral gain ...
متن کاملModified Kalman Filter-based Approach in Comparison with Traditional Speech Enhancement Algorithms from Adverse Noisy Environments
Abstract -The paper presents a new speech enhancement approach for a single channel speech enhancement in a noise environment. In this method speech is mixed with real-world noises from babble, car and street environments. In this paper we proposed modified Kalman method for effective speech enhancement. The proposed method is compared to the traditional Spectral Subtraction (SS), Wiener Filter...
متن کاملSpeech Enhancement Using Gaussian Mixture Models, Explicit Bayesian Estimation and Wiener Filtering
Gaussian Mixture Models (GMMs) of power spectral densities of speech and noise are used with explicit Bayesian estimations in Wiener filtering of noisy speech. No assumption is made on the nature or stationarity of the noise. No voice activity detection (VAD) or any other means is employed to estimate the input SNR. The GMM mean vectors are used to form sets of over-determined system of equatio...
متن کاملCT scout z-resolution improvement with image restoration methods
Currently, new applications demand utilizing CT scout images for diagnostic purposes. However, many CT scout images cannot be used diagnostically due to their poor resolution, particularly in the direction of table movement. Spatial resolution generally can be improved with image restoration techniques. Based on the principles of Wiener filtering and inverse filtering, this paper presents a mod...
متن کاملModulation Transfer Function Compensation through a modified Wiener Filter for spatial image quality improvement
The knowledge of Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) for a degraded image provides a mean to compensate for the image degradation, which improves the image quality in terms of sharpness. MTF compensating is in the image restoration; hence it is fundamentally an ill-posed problem. This paper proposes a stable and flexible filtering technique that executes an optimal tradeoff between sharpness and...
